City Palace is as old as the city of Jaipur itself and was established by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. It is a place of great historical importance and was the administrative seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur until 1949. The palace features many gorgeous temples, buildings, gardens, courtyards, and pavilions that will make for a perfect Instagram feed. You will be able to freely access a private passage to the Chandra Mahal, along with all the places open to the public. Chandra Mahal is one of the oldest buildings in the palaces and houses the suite open to Airbnb guests.
The palace is not just home to the royals but also houses the City Palace Museum. The museum features multiple galleries displaying artifacts of historic significance and facets of the royal life. The Sabha Niwas is a durbar-style hall with huge paintings of former Maharajas on the walls, along with other gorgeous murals. The Sarvato Bhadra is another hall that serves as an important ritual building to date, and festivities like Teej and Dussehra are celebrated in this hall by the royal. Other galleries include the Sileh Khana, Textile Gallery, Transport gallery, and Painting and Photograph gallery.
The motivation behind making the palace accessible to outside guests lies in the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation, a non-profit that is devoted to uplifting and empowering rural women and artisans in Rajasthan.
