Meryl Streep dazzled everyone with her tear filled voice & an undertone of indignation for the current US president. This Sunday night, at the Golden Globes 2017, she received a lifetime career achievement: The Cecil B. DeMille Award. However as she held onto the mike, instead of sweet thankful words she let out her gnawing fears for the future of the USA.

“Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you’ll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not arts,” she remarked in a tear filled but deeply passionate voice.

She added, “Who are we, and what is Hollywood anyway? It’s just a bunch of people from other places.” She addressed all those actors and actresses who happen to come to the USA from different parts of the world.

“There was nothing good about it, but it did its job,” she told the audience. “It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get it out my head because it wasn’t in a movie; it was in real life.”

“That instinct to humiliate when it’s modeled by someone in a public platform, it filters down into everyone’s life because it gives permission for others to do the same. Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence,” she added. “When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.”

“We need the principled press to hold power to account, to call them on the carpet for every outrage,” she said. “We’re going to need (journalists) going forward and they’re going to need us to safeguard the truth.”

And on a splendid note, she ended her speech with a quote from the late Carrie Fisher, “As my friend, the dear departed Princess Leia, said to me once, Take your broken heart and turn it into art.“

Thus, Meryl Streep left her audience filled with a heart full of regard and love for her and the United States of America.

It was truly a speech which woke the Americans up, which shook them up with the burning fact that their country is now in hands of someone who takes pride in being a bully. Meryl Streep has led the way for American citizens and press to to ponder over this issue for the well-being of USA.
