In life, we don’t have ‘snooze’ button, instead we have the ‘instant espresso’ button highlighted with big-bold letters on our coffee welding machines. World wakes up with running shoes tied tight, ear phones plugged in, hours planned-out and lots of hard work, sweat & blood to be put out! But, the coolest thing about the 21st century is that the world is driven & dragged by the 20-something entrepreneurs with ‘start-up’ as their speed gear. Come may the Multi-Nationals or cut-throat competition as the speed-breakers, these young bloods seldom trip or fall. The Intern is all about this and more.
Starring Anne Hathaway in the lead, The Intern revolves around a boss lady who is the founder of an online e-commerce fashion line, with her personal life much in the pipeline. Robert DeNiro, a retired one, gradually realises that retirement is boring and opts for a Senior Internship Program at ‘About The Fit’ (Online portal of Hathaway).
The movie swindles between the ideologies of a 20-something & 70-something. This Hollywood block-buster clearly defines the bricks and walls of a relationship which can strike golden points with the blend of two separate generations.
Here’s what The Intern left us with.
1. Get Your Beauty Sleep
In the movie, the senior intern, Ben (Robert DeNiro) goes to bed at 10 pm and makes use of an alarm clock to wake up. In this fast & furious life, this bed-time discipline of Ben teaches us to ensure a sweet slumber for our bodies.
2. Work Out For Yourself
In the movie, we see Ben doing Tai Chi, which is a fabulous form of exercise, especially for the elderly ones. ‘Health is Wealth’ and this saying specifically applies those who spend their days working hard on their jobs.
3. Friendships are golden
Here, we see Ben enjoying a Starbucks coffee with completely young strangers, just because it used to make him feel ‘a part of something’. All throughout the movie, Hathaway and Robert are shown bonding with each other and solving the tangled mess that life becomes at times.
4. The Immense Love For Work
The profound passion with which Hathaway is shown working, is just down-right inspiring. A 20-something, who seldom sleeps is like a machine working for her company to be successful. She is a role model for all those girls who want to make it big.
“At the end of the day, a woman with a glass of wine and a laptop and a real shopping potential!”
5. Women Can Rock The Work-Boat With A Baby, Anyday!
As said in the movie, ‘It’s 2015, are we really still critical of working moms?’
It goes without saying that nowadays women are climbing the work ladder despite the burden of stereotypes or insecurities weighing them down. These women are the real definition of #girlbosses.
6. Sitting is the new smoking
The movie reflected on the detrimental effects of not working at all. Sitting idle is termed as equally harmful to smoking. So, one should be always on the move, till the clock ticks.
7. Men Are Turning Into Guys, Whereas Girls Are turning Into Women
“So we were always told we could be anything, do anything. And I think guys got, maybe not left behind, but not quite as nurtured, you know? I mean, like, we were the generation of you go, girl. We had Oprah. And I wonder sometimes how guys fit in, you know? They still seem to be trying to figure it out. They’re still dressing like little boys. They’re still playing video games. Well, they’ve gotten great. So…”
8. House Dads Are Cool & Not A Shame
If we’re aiming for gender equality, we should be completely non-judgemental about house-dads who choose to stay in with their kids at home, while the wife is out hustling.
9. Love Has No Age, It Can Happen Anytime
In the movie, Ben who is a 70-year old was seen romancing a divorcee. It’s about time we break the stereotype that love has a certain age and time.
10. At Times, You Have To Choose Between Love & Work
In the movie, Hathaway was at cross-roads with the two options in front of her- Her marriage or work. Whereby, she has to appoint a CEO to manage her online portal while she strikes a balance between being a founder and a wife.
The Intern is thus a perfect reflection of ‘start-ups and 21st century young entrepreneurs’. Its a must watch for all those #girlbosses, who want to pave a way for their dreams and passions.
