LGBTQ – Stand Tall
Our love and energy has transcended through time and fought many battles of oppression and judgment but we have never lost hope. This energy runs through us, it roots us to the earth and makes us who we are. We are heroes. Our names will go down in history because our very existence is a rebellion. A rebellion against a government that claims to be “celebrating independence since 1947”, but fails to understand the very meaning of the word freedom. But, as a community, we choose to counter ignorance with information and hatred with love. And we are strong. We are indestructible. Because our LGBTQ community is built on a foundation far too strong to break– love. We are people fighting for the right to love who we want, touch who we want, be who we are and live openly, and freely. By showing our love and living proudly, we inspire society to accept one another.
We live in a society that expects us to know what we want to do every day for the rest of our lives when we’re still teenagers but still tells us repetitively that we’re “too young to know”, or that “it’s just a phase” when we come out. We live in a society that is corrupted by standards and conventions that no longer fit the global scenario.
I hate to say this, but we are society, but luckily progress has been made through the ages for us, things aren’t as bad as they used to be. But there is still a lot of room for improvement. I dream of a day when saying “hey, I’m gay” and “hey, I’m a vegetarian” have the same response. I dream of a day where we don’t lose our children to suicide day after day because they are scared of not being accepted. I dream of a day that telling your parents you’re not straight, or that you don’t conform to being cisgender isn’t so scary anymore.
I hope to live in a world where nobody is judged, or feared for their sexuality.
To anybody who is a part of this community,
You are so brave. Even if the thought of coming out to your parents, or your friends make you tremble with fear, you have come to terms with yourself, and that is commendable. I know it’s hard to grow up being told you’re one thing and then realizing you’re not. Your story will inspire many like you around the world, and you are making a difference. You are loved, you are accepted. You are important. You are inspirational, and I am forever grateful to God for creating you in all your glory.
It’s okay to not be sure of your sexuality too. The road to self-discovery is a long one, and a hard one, and if you prefer not labeling yourself just yet, it is understandable. But, we are with you. We stand beside you in spirit and are so proud of you for conquering all the battles you face daily, even the ones with your own self. And anyone who tells you different is not worth your time.
So, love who you want, and be who you are.
Because your love is real.
Your love is pure.
Your love is inspirational.
Your love is monumental.
Your love is valid.
And, at the end of the day, love wins.
With pride, always and forever
